What Will It Take For Us To Believe Survivors?
It takes courage to believe something you cannot see, hear or touch. It takes courage to believe something before others are “convinced” – to take a stand and speak up about something terrible even if you have not experienced it yourself. And it takes enormous courage for survivors to speak up when they have been told over and over again that no one will believe them.

Over the past two decades I’ve had the honor of working with colleges and universities all over the country. Every school has unique strengths and challenges. In my work, I am struck by how often I see universities struggle with these same three pitfalls.

Two things I always want to hear as a supervisor
Self-care isn’t just about what we do on our time off (and many of us leave our jobs and immediately begin the work of being caretakers, which is not exactly ‘time off.’). It’s not just about what we do to process and withstand the impact of our work. It’s also how we do the work itself. To that end, I told each new member of my team about the two phrases I always want to hear as a supervisor.
